March of the Penguins – Blackpool is going to Rock again

Over the weekend Liverpool Penguins competed in the 1st round of the Micro League for the North West at Crosby pool. Penguins joined Division 3 of this league last year for the first time, and won 3 out of the 4 galas, comming second in the other. This meant we traveled to Blackpool for the swim offs, to swim against teams from Division 2 to earn the right to swim in Division 2 this year. Do we all remember winning the play off gala and the Sandcastle afterwards? What will it be this year? The Theme Park? The teams we swam against at the weekend were: Lancaster – who are a very good team, having been in the Division 2 play offs for the past 2 years. They were expected to be very strong opposition in this new Division for Penguins; Garston – who joined the league the year before us, also winning their play offs in Blackpool in their first year, and Burnley Aquatics who have recently joined with another local Burnley swimming club to form Burnley Aquatics. The final result was Liverpool Penguin 137 pts Burnley Aquatics 129 pts Lancaster 112 pts Garston 109 pts A very good and pleasing result – well done to all the swimmers involved and to their Parents who cheered all afternoon. (Will the drum and trumpet come out for the next round like the Echo Cup Final?) Please make a note in you diary for the next round which is on Sunday 25th March at West View Leisure Centre Preston PR1 5EP with a 1:00pm start (don’t be late.) The other teams swimming in the next round are: Garston; Garstang and Blackburn. Another tough round so fingers crossed. Best of luck to the Swimmers Penguins March On! Regards Keith...

Olympic Tickets

Olympic Ticket Draw Dear Parents & Swimmers We are all aware that this year the Olympics Games will take place in London. You will also be aware that tickets are extremely hard to obtain.  What you may not know is that the North West Region, this area’s swimming Governing Body, have purchased approx £36,000 worth of tickets for the swimming events, on behalf of its member clubs. On the 13th March 2012, a draw will take place to allocate several tickets to member clubs within the Region, provided certain criteria is met. I am pleased to announce that Liverpool Penguin S.C. have been succeeded with its application to enter the draw to obtain tickets. The Aquatic events take place as follows 28th July to 4th August         Swimming         Aquatics Centre 5th August to 10th August     Synchronised     Aquatics Centre 9th August to 10th August     Open Water         Hyde Park 29th July to 11th August         Diving         Aquatics Centre When the results of the draw are released, and, if we are successful in obtaining tickets, I will give more details on how members of Liverpool Penguin S.C. can apply for the Olympic tickets, along with confirmation of dates, times and venues. Here’s hoping we are successful! Kind Regards Keith Neary Club Secretary                                                 ` Liverpool Penguin...
